On the 3rd of August 2016, while on a mission in Cameroon, the Chief Executive Officer of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB), together with his team, used the opportunity to meet with the newly appointed Director General of the Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV).
The meeting which took place in the company’s premises located in Mballa II, in Yaounde, was an occasion for the AUB to disseminate about the Union’s upcoming projects involving its members.
In his opening remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of AUB congratulated the new Director General of CRTV for his successful appointment at this position.
Mr. Charles NDONGO was appointed by presidential decree, on 29th July 2016.
During this courtesy meeting, Mr. Grégoire NDJAKA and Mr. Charles NDONGO exchanged information about the two institutions. The two leaders further explored at length on how they would work together for mutual benefits of the respective institutions headed by them.
AUB’s CEO who was accompanied by Mrs. Audrey KAMSU, in charge of Members and Public Relations at AUB and as part of the team on mission in Cameroon, spoke at length about the various projects that the union is engaged on. His presentation was on the “One minute project” which he described as a collaborative model where each member of the Union, in his respective country, provides One Minute of advertising for AUB at no cost. He further added that this one minute of advertising was to run every day over a Period of 365 days during the prime hours of both national radio and television. Cameroon, just like nine African countries have signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the AUB and many are yet to be part of the project.
Mr. NDJAKA also outlined the OVERON project and the Other FIFA Events. It should be noted that recently, FIFA approved the African Union of Broadcasting to rebroadcast OFE and acquired the marketing rights.
One of the topics that could not go without being mentioned was the touchy issue of the acquisition of rebroadcast rights of sporting events by the audiovisual media of public service in Africa. To this effect, a strategic meeting was organized on 17th May 2016 in Dakar Senegal. This meeting brought together national radio and television Director Generals from the four regions of Africa.
Cameroon which is an active member of the African Union of Broadcasting was represented at this meeting by the former Director General of CRTV, Mr Amadou VAMOULKE and Mr. Emmanuel WONGIBE recently appointed Deputy Director General of the Cameroon Radio Television.
